Gay Film Festival Gives Back Even in a Difficult Year
SIGLFF shares proceeds with two local non-profit organizations

“We decided this was no time to scale back giving a portion of our proceeds to local non-profits,” says Lou Camera, business manager of the Sacramento International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (SIGLFF). The all-volunteer board cut costs and stepped up fundraising activities for 2009 to meet their commitment to help support non-profit organizations serving the gay community. “Our sponsors, contributors and ad sales all bring income to the festival that we like to give back to the community once the bills are paid,” says President Dawn Deason. “I’m proud to say we can give again this year.” The board selected two organizations out of many qualified applicants: The Lambda Players and Sunburst Projects.

Lambda PlayersLambda Players, INC. has been serving the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) community in Sacramento with quality live theater including works from local GLBT play writes for over 20 years.
Lambda Players recently acquired a new theater at 21st and L Streets in the heart of Lavender Heights. “SIGLFF is a must-see,” says Dave Stewart, VP Lambda Players. “The festival a wonderful way of witnessing gay culture through many foreign writers, directors, actors, and all those-behind-the-scenes people from all over our beautiful world.”

Sunburst ProjectsSunburst Projects has been serving HIV/AIDS women, teens, and families since 1988. Their programs include HIV positive women’s support group, teen support group, summer camp, mental health and family centered case management.“Like many agencies, Sunburst Projects is feeling the effects of the economy and we are very thankful for the money we will receive through SIGLFF,” says Jennifer Novak of Sunburst Projects.
